“ Some of my colleagues and I decided to head to Albert's Bar after work the other night for some food, drinks, and to unwind from the week. After some deliberation as to where to go, we ultimately decided here based on the good reviews, selection of food and drinks, and proximity to our office. That being said, we made our way over after logging off for the day. Conveniently located steps away from Grand Central, Albert's is a large bar and restaurant that seems to cater to the after work crowd (that's me!). Space is one of the biggest assets Albert's has - there's a large bar in the center of the space with booths surrounding the perimeter. Additionally, they have more tables and stools on a second level giving view to the ground level plus a private room - overall it has a really grand presence. The aesthetics are welcoming - lots of medium wood tones throughout the space accented with touches of brass and plants. One of my colleagues called a few days prior to make a reservation - they take reservations online but she wanted to be sure we would get a booth so she called instead. Once we arrived, we were told there was no reservation for us - my colleague explained the situation and even showed them her call history to prove we spoke with them. They were pretty accommodating, though one of the employees passed a comment that we should have made a reservation online - if that's what they wanted then they shouldn't have accepted the phone reservation. Ultimately we only waited about 30 minutes for a table, and they were good about getting us once our table was ready (we headed upstairs for a drink while we waited). The drink menu is expansive - they have a large selection of cocktails plus beer and wine. I mostly stuck to cocktails (we had a few rounds), and everything I had was pretty good. My favorite was the amaro colada - it's not cream-based like a traditional pina colada, but it had refreshing pineapple flavor and was smooth. We ordered a lot of food: crunchy chickpeas, salt and vinegar chips, popcorn monkfish, shishito peppers, mussels, seasoned Jojo's (wedge fries), spatzle mac and cheese, spicy artichoke dip, charred octopus, and Albert's Double Deluxe Burger. All of the food was good - nothing that blew my socks off but it was solid, quality American food and perfect for sharing. The standouts for me were the artichoke dip, charred octopus, and the burger - but really there wasn't a miss. Service was good - everyone was friendly, food/drinks came out fast, and they consistently checked in on us to make sure all was well. Overall, I had a good time at Albert's - the food, service, and aesthetics were all a yes, and I would definitely return (with an online reservation ;-) if given the opportunity. ”
